Island hopping — sand, seaweed, a fishing boat.
Uvinje is an island-hopping day in the water north-west of Wete, with Fumba and Njao. Njao, and Fundo just south of it, close the harbour of Wete. Between these islands the sea changes colour: white sand, a reef you can read from the boat, and the dark rectangles of seaweed farms stitched across the shallows.
The day is not one beach. It is the hop. A landing on Uvinje. Seaweed with the women who farm it, when the tide allows. A line in the water with the island boats. Village life under the trees, unhurried. And if the light holds, the west going gold before the return to Wete. Private boat, a crew who know which gap to take, lunch on the sand.
